What is a Domain Name ?
A domain name is a unique name created to recognize and locate a website on the Internet. An example of a domain name is WIPL.IN (the domain for this site).
A domain name extension, the part after the dot in the domain name, describes the entity type. For example, .com stands for commercial, .gov stands for government, and .org stands for organization. Domains also have extensions for countries. For example, .au stands for Australia, .in stands for India, and so on. Some domain extensions have rules about who is allowed to register domains with those extensions.
The domain name "owner" does not actually "own" the domain but is the registrant of the domain for the period of time that the domain is registered for. A domain name can be registered through a domain name registrar.

If your domain has common misspellings, register the misspellings and point them to your site.

The shortest domain names are already registered. While you probably can't get a three-letter domain, you can still consider length. Shorter is generally better. It's easier to type, write, and fit on business cards and other publications. Avoid more than three or (at the most) four words in a domain name.
